Description of the Organization: Scotties Rock Foundation (SRF) was established in 2016 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit public charity that raises funds to assist Scottish Terrier owners and rescue groups worldwide who have limited financial resources with unexpected or overwhelming veterinary care expenses. Recipients of assistance from the Foundation’s Pay It Forward fund (PIF) are encouraged, when they are able, to contribute resources to the Foundation to, in turn, help others. Scotties Rock Foundation receives no official funding nor does it receive money from any charitable public grants. It is solely dependent upon the generosity of the public. The Foundation raises funds through online Facebook auctions, sales of Scotties Rock! themed merchandise and t-shirts, and donations received through groups such as Amazon Smile, Network for Good and Easy Fundraising (UK). Individual donors are the Foundation’s lifeline.
The all-volunteer Board of Directors of SRF administers the Pay It Forward Fund. Individuals seeking financial assistance must submit a formal application supported by documentation of medical need and costs directly from a veterinarian to a Foundation board member. Applicants are encouraged to exhaust all other financial resources (pet insurance, Care Credit, etc.) prior to making a request. Payment for medical assistance is made directly to a veterinarian, and a rescue/nonprofit discount is always requested, although not always honored. Assistance must be approved by a formal vote of the Board. Confidentiality of members who receive assistance is always respected. The Board considers member assistance awards to be a “hand up” to the individuals who receive them, who are then strongly encouraged to “pay it forward” by participating in SRF fundraisers and other activities.
Scotties Rock Foundation Board members also serve as administrators for our social networking Facebook group- Scotties Rock! Scotties Rock is a group where members (currently numbering over 6,300 worldwide) can share their love of Scottish Terriers, trade good news and announcements of accomplishments, and receive on-going support and helpful hints from fellow Scottie owners. Announcements are posted recognizing rainbow bridge passage for members' canine companions, resulting in many messages of condolence and support. And, a weekly Sunday morning Paws Up post provides support to those whose Scotties are struggling with illness.
Successes: Since its establishment in late 2016 with a starting budget of approximately $850.00 SRF has raised and distributed (through December 2020) over $142,000.00 in member assistance to 161 dogs loved by 103 different owners, and to three rescue organizations. The amount of assistance provided per dog averaged $841.08.
Current membership (through December 2020) in Scotties Rock Foundation Facebook group (the fundraising arm of Scotties Rock) is 3,5896; current membership in Scotties Rock Facebook social group is 6,398.
Scotties Rock Foundation earned a Guidestar Platinum Seal of Transparency in 2020 for openness in reporting attainment of its objectives and its financial status.
